North Country Deanery

Our deanery (one of thirteen deaneries in the Archdiocese) is made up of 8 parishes: Gympie, Maryborough, Childers, Hervey Bay, Gayndah , Murgon, Nanango and Kingaroy. Our dean is Fr Pat Cassidy, administrator of Kingaroy/Nanango.

Minutes of the North Country Deanery Pastoral Council meeting
Held at St.Mary`s parish meeting room, Maryborough 19 May 2007.
Meeting commenced: 10.10.am.with a warm welcome from our Chairman.
Opening prayers lead by Sr.Rose were a hymn"Holy Sacred Spirit"a greeting
prayer"Come,Spirit of God",Psalm 113,and finally a reading:(Isaiah
61:1-2a.)by Tom.We then prayed our intercessions,and were blessed by
Fr.Paul.
PRESENT: Fr.Pat Cassidy,Fr.Paul Kelly,Fr.Joseph Hien Van Vo,Sr.Rose Tom
Bushell,Julie Lynch,Mary Roberts,Betty Casey,Betty Young,Mary
Mulholland,Margaret McNee,Margaret Shepherdson,Berry Doak,Liam Dougherty,Kim
Koster,Stuart McKinnon,Kemsley Kelly,David Hogan.
APOLOGIES: Fr.Joe,Fr.John,Fr.Emmanuel,Sr.Eunice,Helen,Irene.
MINUTES: Of the Feb.meeting were read by all present,then moved for
acceptance by Julie,seconded by Liam.
Matters arising: Julie spoke on the position of Lay Parish Director
proposal. She is also continuing to follow up on the situation re.Murgon
still not having representation on the D.P.C.Fr.Joseph spoke about some good
news regarding priest numbers into the future.
STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS & UNSPENT FUNDS.The distribution of the budget
documents,led to a detailed discussion on several funding matters,Fr.Paul
highlighted some errors of funding allocations in the document.Julie
clarified the position with regard to unused monies,they will be taken into
account when allocations are made next year.Stuart put forward the proposal
that each parish should be able to retain any unused funds for use in the
following year,it was felt that clarification from Brisbane re.budget
planning was needed,Julie to follow up,and report back to our next
meeting.Fr.Paul explained in some detail the fundamentals of the LABORA
C.D.ROM.which is very useful in helping to produce booklets relating to
certain liturgical events.If required Barry Copely is available to come from
Brisbane,to help parishes set up the system.
YOUTH NEWS.Kim (Gayndah) told us about the enthusiastic approach Rebecca
Meredith has adopted working with the local young people,which is producing
great results.
Fr.Joseph indicated he felt he was not being kept informed by the Brisbane
people working on WYD. Julie pointed out that Carmel and the Parish Youth
Ministry team had attended a day in Brisbane, and were busy planning for WYD
activities, this year and next.
ARChDIOCESAN PASTORAL COUNCIL NEWS.Tom reported that the council was
currently having a review carried out,in an effort to gauge its
relevence,and in particular whether it should continue to function.Because
he is required to submit a report to each A.P.C.meeting,he requested that
each parish bring along to each of our deanery meetings a written report of
their relevant activities.Brevity would be good.He pointed out that the
A.P.C.was originated to help the Archbishop with all the Synod
recommendations.Tom handed out a brief prepared report from the Gympie
parish
Margaret asked about the difference between the Archdiocesan Pastoral
Council and the Secretariat for Pastoral Councils. She, as a rep for the
secretariat was already giving reports from all parishes. Julie pointed out
that Tom was to give a deanery level report to the APC (i.e. what parishes
are doing as a result of deanery initiatives), not parish happenings as
such.
DEAN`S REPORT.Fr.Pat advised that he was to be transferred to Gympie to take
over from Fr.Joe,the position regarding his old parish is yet to be
finalised.
AROUND THE PARISHES.Fr.Joseph,reported on the situation in Hervey Bay
regarding all the Jubilee celebration activity are on schedule,as well
things going according to plan with the proposed long day care centre.
Childers,reported that the lay liturgy workshop conducted by Margaret was
actively attended by 40 parishioners.They are currently taking a close look
at their weekend Mass schedule,as at the present time Fr. Is celebrating
five Masses each weekend. The chairman brought the meeting to a conclusion
with the "Lord`s Prayer"at 11.30.am.
